High Quality Vishay Potentiometers
Potentiometers are resistors that have three terminals with a sliding contact at the center that form an adjustable voltage divider. They are used to control voltage or potential difference across a circuit. A linear potentiometer produces a voltage output that is directly proportional to the distance between the sliding contact and the ground terminal. They are often used in cathode ray tube devices to allow the user to adjust electron beam characteristics. A rotary potentiometer rotates around a reel, and the voltage output is directly proportional to the shaft angle. They are frequently used for throttle position, gear drum position, and steering wheel angle.
High quality Vishay potentiometers are available for a variety of applications. The Vishay Spectrol 5K Ohm potentiometer has a track resistance of 1k Ohm and a power rating of 2 W. The temperature coefficient is 20 ppm and the resistance tolerance is 5 percent. It is a wirewound, linear potentiometer with shaft adjustment. Other Vishay Spectrol potentiometers are available in 1K Ohm, 2K Ohm, 10K Ohm, 50K Ohm and 100K Ohm.
